Autumn 2014 MC and WG Meetings

QUERYING THE SEMANTIC WEB

17-18 October 2014, Riva del Garda, TN

1.  Topic

In the last decade, the Semantic Web, and in particular the Linked Data Web, has been evolving. So, nowadays a great amount of annotated datasets is available for use and reuse. As structured data on the Web is generated automatically from different sources, datasets vary heavily with respect to quantity, quality, currentness and completeness. Whereas state-of-the-art keyword search techniques for structured data typically address single-source search scenarios, they neither require any query routing techniques, nor knowledge of source quality. During the meeting, invited speakers will present current state of the art in the area. A brainstorming session will aim at identifying synergies and collaboration potential among KEYSTONE partners.

2.  Goal and Program

The goal of the meeting includes three main issues:

  • [RESEARCH] Definition of open challenges in keyword search over structured databases, with particular reference to the querying process in the Semantic Wdeb (by means of keynote talks and round table discussions)
  • [NETWORKING] Identification of research topics studied by research groups involved in KEYSTONE

The participant will be asked to provide 2-3 keywords defining their research. A tag cloud will be created.
The participant will have to fill-in a poster describing their expertise with respeted to the KEYSTONE themes

17.30 – 18.15 Brain “X” — collection of information
The participant will be asked to answer to one question about Querying the Semantic Web in 15 minutes. After that, they will refine one question previously provided by another partner. The process will be repeated.

The questions to be answered are published here.

18:15 – 19:00  KEYNOTE: Bruno Crispo, Università di Trento: Encrypted searches

SESSION II
9:00 – 10.30 KEYNOTE:  “Semantic web, smart cities and enterprise: opportunities for research”
Marco Combetto – Informatica Trentina SPA
Paolo Bouquet – Università of Trento and Okkam SRL
Vladimir Alexiev – Ontotext
Henrik Strindberg – Xcerion

Two main questions will be asked to the participants:
1. The semantic web technologies are now enough mature to be applied in real and complex scenarios?
2. Which are these challenging real scenarios?

4. Travel Information

There are many ways to reach Riva del Garda. The main conference airport is Verona-Villafranca (Valerio Catullo), in Verona, which is well-connected to most European capitals and airport hubs. It is also the base of Air Dolomiti, a member of Star Alliance (Lufthansa Group). In more details the options are:

A. Public Transport I  (from Verona Airport / Verona Train station / Rovereto Train Station):

  • At the airport, take the shuttle bus to the train station (Verona Porta Nuova) . (10 minutes)
  • Take a train to Rovereto (timetable here ) (40 minutes).
  • Just outside the Rovereto train station, to the right, take the coach number 332 to Riva del Garda (40 minutes). Please, take a look at the timetables by:
    1. opening the page timetable ;
    2. selecting the correct coach line “332: Rovereto-Mori-Riva-Arco-Bolognano”;
    3. opening the PDF file called VISUALIZZA ORARI DI LINEA
    4. [alternative … you can take a taxi from Rovereto: this is close to Rova – 25km–> auround 45-50 euro, NOT ELIGIBLE for reimbursement]

B. Public Transport II (from Verona Airport / Verona Train station):

  • At the airport, take the shuttle bus to the train station (Verona Porta Nuova) . (10 minutes)
  • From there by public bus to Riva del Garda. The bus schedule from Verona Train Station will be available shortly (about 2 hours)

C. Public Transport III (from Bologna Airport / Verona Train station):

  • At the airport, take the shuttle bus to the train station (Bologna centrale) . (20 minutes)
  • From there by train reach Rovereto – timetable here (from 1h30′ to 3h, depending on the train)
  • From the Rovereto train Station take the coach number 332 (see Public Transport I)

D. Public Transport IV (from Orio Al Serio APT (BGY) Airport / Verona Train station):

E. Car Rental: COST provides you 20 cent if you are alone (30 cent if there is another participant with you).
This price is competitive if you find a cheap car.

F. Car / Transport Sharing: Some of you decided to rent a car and can share their transport means with other people. A Google spreadsheet allows you to provide /ask to share the trip with other KEYSTONE members. Click here.

The ISWC web page proposes other solutions with the use of TAXI or shared TAXI. Even if this service could be simple and in some cases cheap, TAXI can be used only in particular situations as explained in the vademecum (this solution requires that you have to supply with your own funds).

5. Accomodation

We agreed with the Rivatour Agency that we can use the same procedure adopted for the ISWC conference here

6. How to claim a reimbursement (only for invited people):

  1. You have to be registered in the eCost system
  2. Summary of eligible expenses
  3. IMPORTANT Note about how to avoid Italian tax deductions
